Top Hospitals in Florida: U.S. News & World Report’s Latest Rankings
Hospitals across the country and in the state of Florida were graded according to 16 different specialties.

TAMPA BAY, FL — U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday released its rankings of the best hospitals in the country and across Florida. The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota earned No. 1 honors in the national rankings. Its Jacksonville counterpart tied for first place in Florida.
U.S. News’ annual rankings look at how hospitals perform across different specialties, procedures and conditions. Hospitals that score high in those categories are compiled into an “Honor Roll” of the Top 20 hospitals across the country. Hospitals from each state are also ranked according to the publication’s standards. While no hospitals in Florida made the Top 20 list, 28 did meet ranking standards.
Tampa’s Moffitt Cancer Center was also recognized on a breakout ranking of the country’s best cancer hospitals. It came in sixth in the country.

“Moffitt is honored to be acknowledged by U.S. News as the No. 6 cancer hospital in the nation,” said Alan F. List, M.D., president and CEO of Moffitt, after Tuesday’s ranking release. “It’s especially poignant that this honor comes as we celebrate the hospital’s 30th anniversary this year.”
This is the 27th year U.S. News & World Report has compiled rankings for hospitals across the country. Here are the top hospitals in Florida, according to the rankings:

To compile the rankings, U.S. News & World Report used several different objective measurements such as patient survival, number of patients and staffing numbers. The publication also used survey data from qualified physicians, who were asked to name the top five hospitals in their specialty.
VA and military hospitals were not included, the publication said, because the federal government is reluctant to release performance data in those hospitals.
Procedures and conditions that were considered included hip replacement and heart failure.
Hospitals were also ranked according to these 16 specialties:
1. Cancer
2. Cardiology and heart surgery
3. Diabetes and endocrinology
4. Ear, nose and throat
5. Gastroenterology and GI surgery
6. Geriatrics
7. Gynecology
8. Nephrology
9. Neurology and neurosurgery
10. Orthopedics
11. Pulmonology
12. Urology
13. Ophthalmology
