700 Robocalls Add Up to $1 Million Win Against Bank of America
A Tampa couple's lawsuit alleged the bank placed 700 robocalls to them over four years.

When a Tampa couple fell behind on their mortgage in 2009, they did what they could to work with Bank of America.
Despite seeking a loan modification and sending cease-and-desist letters, the bank, however, kept calling them at home, on their cellphones, night and day, trying to collect money the couple couldnât pay, the Tampa Bay Times reported. Several years, many cease-and-desist letters and 700 robocalls later, the couple has won a $1 million default judgment against the bank for harassment, the paper reported.
The couple, Joyce and Nelson Coniglio, filed a federal harassment suit against the bank back in July, the Times reported.

When Bank of America failed to answer that lawsuit, a federal judge ruled in favor of the couple and their request for a $1 million settlement in regard to the harassing calls, ABC reported. That amounts to $1,500 a robocall.

How soon the couple will get their money remains to be seen. ABC reports that Bank of America is now reviewing the case for a possible appeal.
The coupleâs attorney, John Anthony, told the Times heâs trying to collect.
âUnlike Bank of America, weâre only going to call them once,â the paper quoted him as saying.
Bank of America has come under fire multiple times in recent years for its role in the mortgage crisis. Back in August, the bank reached a $16.65 billion deal to settle federal and state complaints regarding shoddy lending practices, the New York Times reported.
