Heavy Rain Moving into the Bay

Forecasters anticipate a rainy Wednesday night followed by more storms Thursday.

Tampa Bay area residents might want to pull out those umbrellas.

The National Weather Service is anticipating showers will move into the region in the overnight hours Wednesday bringing with them cooler temperatures and a chance for a strong thunderstorm or two. That rain is expected to last into the day Thursday.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for a mostly cloudy day with a high in the lower 70s. The situation changes in the nighttime hours when forecasters anticipate a 100 percent chance of storms in much of the Bay area. Storms are expected to arrive after midnight in most parts of the region, bringing between 1 and 2 inches of rain.

The storms will linger through Thursday morning with forecasters calling for a 60 percent chance of rain in much of the Bay. The rain is expected to clear out in the early afternoon, however, giving way to a day with an anticipated high in the lower 60s. Overnight temperatures Thursday are expected to drop into the upper 60s.

While widespread thunderstorm activity isn’t anticipated, forecasters are warning there is a potential for strong storms along the coastal region as the front moves through Wednesday night and Thursday. Rip current likelihood will also increase along Bay area beaches over the next day or so.

Once the storms move out, forecasters anticipate a nice weekend ahead. As of Wednesday morning, the weather service was expecting mostly sunny days Friday through Sunday with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.
