Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that only Democrats may vote for Democratic nominees and only Republicans are allowed to vote in the Republican race. While the Republican race is a winner-take-all proposition for the Republicans, the Democrats award their delegates proportionally. That means former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders are likely to divide up the state’s 214 pledged delegates based on Tuesday's results.

The latest Quinnipiac University Poll puts Clinton in the lead with Florida voters by 60 percent to Sanders’ 34 percent. A Democrat needs 2,383 delegates to earn the party’s nomination. So far, Clinton has 1,235 delegates to Sanders’ 580.

Other states on the line Tuesday include Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois and Missouri.

Florida voting was going fairly smoothly as of late Tuesday afternoon. The only major irregularities reported included computer issues in Duval County and the possibility of Donald Trump's name missing from some Florida ballots. Secretary of State Ken Detzner assured voters all certified candidates made the ballots.

Polls remain open in Florida until 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15.
