Man Caused Crash, Left Injured Passengers Behind, Cops Say
The man is accused of causing a crash on the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a critical injury crash that closed westbound lanes on the Courtney Campbell Causeway for a while Monday morning.
According to the agency, a red Pontiac was heading westbound on the causeway around 3:18 a.m. The driver attempted to pass a black Nissan and lost control of his car. When he did, the Pontiac struck the Nissan, sending both cars spinning out of control and into a guardrail.
One of the Pontiac’s passengers was ejected from the car, an email from the police department stated.

After the crash, the driver of the Pontiac tried to flee the scene on foot. A Clearwater Police officer, however, caught up with him and brought him into custody.
The driver of the Pontiac suffered minor injuries, police say. His two passengers were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. One suffered life-threatening injuries, the email said.

The driver of the Nissan escaped with minor injuries.
The names of those involved and charges for the Pontiac’s driver have not yet been released.
