Plant High Volleyball to Play for District Title Thursday
The Panthers punched their ticket to the 2011 playoffs with a win over Wharton. They face Durant in the final at Bloomingdale High School at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Coming off five consecutive state titles, it's hard to impress with a district title. However, this year, this district is different.
The new Class 8A-District 7 is very tough from top to bottom. There is a cluster of teams at the top in Plant, Bloomingdale and Wharton, who each finished the regular season tied. It came down to a coin toss to determine the seeding — Wharton had the best win percentage in the group, but they pulled the third straw and had to get through Newsome to arrive at their district semifinal match on Wednesday.
Plant was happy to accommodate, having dealt the Wildcats one of their three losses on the year. Plant dropped Wharton in three straight games 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 to advance to the 2011 playoffs.
