Rabbits abandoned in Plant City now available for foster-to-adopt (wfla.com) — The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is urgently seeking local foster-to-adopt homes for more than 20 rabbits now at its Tampa campus after a large group was abandoned in Plant City. Staff say the bunnies are recovering but still fragile, and they're asking experienced foster families to provide quiet spaces so the animals can gain weight and heal before permanent adoption.
   

2. 3. Chiefs' Butker kicks 69-yard field goal, but has late misses as Daniels rallies Bucs to 16-15 win (newser.com) — Tampa fans just saw a wild preseason finish at Raymond James Stadium, where rookie Jalon Daniels led the Buccaneers to a 16-15 comeback win over the Chiefs despite a record-setting 69-yard field goal by Harrison Butker. Most Bucs starters, including Baker Mayfield, played only briefly as coaches evaluated depth and backup quarterbacks ahead of the final preseason cuts.
   

4. DIAZ v. STATE, 181 So.2d 351 (Fla. Dist. Ct. App. 1966) (justia.com) — A Florida appeals court upheld a marijuana conviction stemming from an arrest that began with a traffic stop in the City of Tampa, ruling the trial judge could decide whether officers stayed in "fresh pursuit." The decision leans on earlier state cases to affirm that resolving conflicting testimony about the legality of an arrest and search is primarily the trial court's job.
   

5. 3rd person dies in Florida from flesh-eating bacteria: Department of Health (wfla.com) — From Tampa, state health officials are warning Floridians about a rise in dangerous Vibrio vulnificus infections, with 17 cases and three deaths reported so far this year, including in Hillsborough County. The bacteria thrives in warm, brackish Gulf waters, and residents are urged to be cautious with raw shellfish and to keep open wounds out of seawater, especially after storms and flooding.
