Robinson High Wrestler Takes Second Place at States
Luis Peguero finished on the medal stand Saturday night in Lakeland, the best showing of nine Knights wrestlers who competed at the state finals.
LAKELAND — Robinson High sophomore Luis Peguero had a strong showing at the state wrestling finals Saturday at The Lakeland Center, finishing in second place in Class 1A's 170-pound bracket.
Peguero (49-7) won his first three matches against Kiahlin Redish of Suwannee, Dominick Grilli of Fivay and Mike Seymour of Titusville. But the sophomore ran into a buzzsaw in the final round against senior Geordan Speiller (41-1) of Orlando Pine Castle Christian. Speiller had all of the experience and momentum after pinning each of his opponents in the tournament.
The second-place medal was the best showing by a Knight wrestler at states this weekend. Eight other Robinson wrestlers qualifed: junior Jeremy Andujar (113 pounds), senior David Nguyen (126), senior Jonathan Smith (132), junior Damien McKinize (138), senior Nicholas Caverly (140), junior Alex Reay (195), sophomore Kendonte Nichols (220) and senior Javon Woods (285).
