'Sharknado 3' Rains Down Soon

The third installment in the Syfy Channel franchise was filmed partially in Orlando.

As if Florida doesn’t have enough creepy, crawly and biting things to contend with, now residents have watch out for sharks falling from the sky.

At least that will be the case on the little screen when Syfy Channel debuts the third installment in its “Sharknado” franchise. Dubbed “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!”, the latest flick in the series hits the cable channel July 22 at 9 p.m. eastern, according to the network’s Facebook page.

This time around Fin, played by Ian Ziering, and April, portrayed by Tara Reid, face down shark-tossing tornadoes from “Washington, D.C., down to Florida,” the network announced earlier this year along with a partial list of actors making cameos in the wildly popular franchise.

Among those scheduled to make appearances in the film are Bo Derek, as April’s mother, and David Hasselhoff, as Fin’s father. Chris Jericho, Ann Coulter, Mark Cuban and Jerry Springer have also lined up to make appearances.

Some of the filming for “Sharknado 3” took place at Universal Orlando Resort, NBC reported in February. Local actors were used in a number of scenes to play the roles of theme park patrons and soldiers.

Cheesy by design, the “Sharknado” franchise has been a big hit for the cable network. “Sharknado 2: The Second One,” holds the record of being Syfy’s most-watched original movie made to date, The Warp reported.

“‘Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!’ embraces the larger-than-life irreverence that has made these movies so popular and entertaining,” Chris Regina, Syfy’s senior vice president of program strategy, was quoted by the website as promising.

The third installment is a 2-hour original that will run in 86 countries across the globe within a day of its American premiere.
