Suspect Named in Teen's Birthday Party Shooting Death
The Tampa Police Department says the man faces second-degree murder charges in the death of an eighth-grader.

The Tampa Police Department has identified a suspect in the March 21 shooting death of a 14-year-old boy who was attending an outdoor birthday party.
According to the sheriff’s office, a warrant for the arrest of Joseph Huggins, 22, has been issued.
“Forensic evidence had led to the identification of Huggins as the shooter,” the department wrote in an email.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. during a teenager’s birthday party at 8105 9th Ave. Police said a fight broke out and that shots were fired. Richard Newton, an eighth-grader at Van Buren Middle School, was struck by a bullet and killed.
Huggins faces second-degree murder charges in the case, police said.
