Tampa Selected For 2013 Wheelchair Games

The city will host the largest wheelchair sporting event in the world.

More than 500 veterans with disabilities will meet in Tampa to compete in the largest wheelchair sporting event in the world, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. The Department of Veterans Affairs and the Paralyzed Veterans of America recently selected the city as the host site for the 2013 edition of the games.

The event offers 17 sports to veterans who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injuries, amputations and neurological diseases. The Games promote rehabilitation through competition in such sports as basketball, rugby, softball, handcycling.

The event will take place from July 13-18, 2013.

The Tampa Convention Center and St. Pete Times Forum will serve as the main venues for the annual event. Other local venues will host such ancillary events as bowling, swimming, track, field, motorized rally, trapshooting and archery.
