Legendary sports announcer Dick Vitale, along with former University of Florida quarterback Jesse Palmer, were recently honored by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.
Sports legend Dick Vitale and college football analyst Jesse Palmer were honored recently by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission at its inaugural “Tampa Bay Sneaker Soiree: A Celebration of Excellence in Sports Business.”
Vitale was given the Commission’s first ever “Lifetime Achievement Award,” which honors individuals who have made a significant social and economic impact on the region through sports.
“Dick Vitale has been a tremendous ambassador for the Tampa Bay area,” said Rob Higgins, executive director of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, in a written release. “From his upcoming annual gala that has raised millions for cancer research to his strong support of bringing another Super Bowl back to our area, he continues to be an incredible point guard for our community.”

The "Tampa Bay Sneaker Soiree" marked the first time the Tampa Bay community honored the off-the-field business accomplishments of the local sports fanchises. An owner’s roundtable discussion – featuring Bryan Glazer of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jeff Vinik of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Stuart Sternberg of the Tampa Bay Rays - was one of the evening’s highlights.
Former University of Florida quarterback and current college football television analyst, Palmer served as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
