What Smoking Costs Floridians
The state ranks 21st overall in the lifetime costs for smokers, according to WallHub.

The typical Florida smoker will spend an average of $1.45 million over the course of a lifetime to feed their habit and pay for its potential consequences.
That’s according to a new study released by the folks at WalletHub. Researchers there wanted to find out just how much smokers across the country could figure on paying out. To arrive at its numbers, WalletHub looked at such factors as out-of-pocket costs, health-care costs, income loss and other related metrics. The report covers all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

- New York - $2.45 million
- Massachusetts - $2.26 million
- Alaska - $2.24 million
- Hawaii - $2.18 million
- Connecticut - $2.13 million
The cheapest places for smokers are:
- Louisiana - $1.232 million
- Kentucky - $1.238 million
- Missouri - $1.254 million
- West Virginia, $1.255 million
- North Carolina - $1.26 million
In Florida, smokers spend an average of $103,276 on out-of-pocket costs, WalletHub found. Income loss is estimated at nearly $200,000. Those numbers combined with other metrics to produce the $1.45 million figure and the 21st-place ranking.
