2016 Income Tax Deadline: Last Day To File Is Almost Here

Some post offices in the Tampa Bay area are regularly open past 5 p.m., making it a little easier for late filers to meet the deadline.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Tampa Bay area residents who have procrastinated in filing their 2015 income tax returns get a few extra days to get the job done this year. Courtesy of a holiday in the country’s capital, the deadline to submit is April, 18, 2016, rather than the standard April 15 date.

The Internal Revenue Service says that Washington, D.C., will celebrate Emancipation Day on Friday, April 15. That pushes the federal tax deadline to the following Monday for most of the nation.

April 18 is also the day for filing state income taxes in most parts of the country. Floridians get a break here since Florida doesn’t have a state income tax. Taxpayers who can’t pay their federal taxes owed by April 18 may set up a monthly payment plan using the Online Payment Agreement option on IRS.gov.

For those planning to file paper returns, the U.S. Postal Service has a number of locations in the Tampa Bay area that stay open past 5 p.m. regularly. Here are just a few of the locations:
