Arrest Made In Fatal Memorial Day Shooting On 1st Ave. N.: St. Pete Police

ST. PETERSBURG, FL β€” A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal downtown St. Petersburg shooting in the early hours of Memorial Day, authorities said.

Jacob Carreras, 25, was charged with second-degree murder, St. Petersburg police said in a news release.

He’s accused of shooting and killing 29-year-old Peter-Austin Afentakis, 29, just before 3 a.m. on May 25.

Carreras and Afentakis got into an argument while on the street in the 100 block of 1st Avenue N.

Carreras shot the victim, who later died from his injuries, police said.

Police issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest, and the U.S. Marshals Service took him into custody in Hillsborough County.

Carreras will be extradited to Pinellas County to face charges.
