Syriah Henderson Candlelight Vigil to be Held at Site of Hanging
The public is invited to attend a Candlelight Vigil sponsored by the International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement (InPDUM). The Candlelight Vigil will be another fightback action to make the world aware of the suspicious hanging death of Syriah Henderson.
Henderson was found hanging from a tree on July 1, 2026. The organization is aggressively building a campaign to make Henderson’s death a cause to rally the Black community to organize for political power, economic development and self defense.
The Vigil is seen as a defining moment in the struggle against colonial violence against the African community. The InPDUM knows that colonialism imposes political powerlessness, poverty, and violence on the Black community.
There is historic significance to the Vigil being held on October 24th. The Vigil is being held 30 years after the police murder of 18 year old Tyron Lewis. A moment of silence will recognize the murder of Lewis at the same time showing that colonial violence against African people comes in many forms. It’s time to fight back.
We will gather behind the Dollar Tree at 3426 Central Avenue, St. Pete, where Syriah Henderson's body was found.
