Coastal Orthopedics experts teach spinal cord stimulator course

Interventional pain management specialists Dr. Bundschu and Dr. Gekht recently led a course for physicians on spinal cord stimulators.

Interventional pain management specialists Dr. Richard H. Bundschu and Dr. Gennady Gekht, from the comprehensive and full-service orthopedic, sports medicine and pain management practice Coastal Orthopedics (CoastalOrthopedics.com), recently led a course for physicians on spinal cord stimulators.

In the cadaver course sponsored by Nevro Corporation, one of the leaders in the field of spinal cord stimulation, Dr. Bundschu and Dr. Gekht taught about 20 physicians how to insert spinal cord stimulators. The stimulators, which are surgically placed under the patient's’ skin to send a mild electrical current to the spinal cord, can help treat chronic pain. The course was taught at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation in Tampa.

“I have been honored to teach other physicians how to implant these devices so that more patients will be able to utilize spinal cord stimulation for their chronic pain state,” Dr. Bundschu said. “Nevro has brought to the forefront the latest technology in high frequency stimulation, and they are the only company with such capabilities.”

Dr. Bundschu teaches several spinal cord stimulation classes each year, and has taught three in the last six months for Nevro and the Spine Intervention Society, an international community of physicians who are dedicated to the most scientifically proven methods of chronic pain treatments.

“It’s truly a privilege to have this option to offer patients who have a condition that up to now has not been adequately treated,” Dr. Bundschu said.
