Full-service orthopedic, sports medicine and pain management practice Coastal Orthopedics (CoastalOrthopedics.com) recently received the Community Partnership Award from R. Dan Nolan Middle School in Bradenton.
The award, which was presented to the practice at an awards banquet, recognizes Coastal Orthopedics’ involvement in the school’s HOSA: Future Health Professionals program. HOSA is an international student organization focused on promoting career opportunities in the health care industries.
Members of the Coastal Orthopedics team spoke monthly to HOSA students at Nolan Middle about various opportunities in the healthcare field, including marketing, information technology, physical therapy, nursing and becoming a physician.

“The Coastal speakers provide an opportunity for students to hear about medical and administrative experiences from professionals in the field of orthopedics,” Nolan Middle HOSA co-advisor Pamela J. Rahn said. “Students are able to ask questions and participate in hands-on activities, and some students have confirmed their field of study based on the speakers.”
Speakers from Coastal Orthopedics included physical therapy manager David Griffith, physician assistant Brett Mattei, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist Dr. Laura Ottaviani, cast technician Anthony Battaglia, East Ambulatory Surgery Center director Michelle Punshon, doctor assistant manager Stephanie Conyers, information technology manager Josh Frazier and marketing assistant Sarah Beth Scott.

“Our program has been really successful this year, and Coastal is a major part of that success,” Rahn said. “Coastal also donated physical therapy tables and an X-ray view box that we use on a regular basis. We are very appreciative of our partnership.”
In May, Nolan Middle sixth graders also took a field trip to Coastal’s East Ambulatory Surgery Center, led by director Punshon. During the trip, students assisted staff and observed surgeries.
