Cops: Teens Drove Over Parked Car In Stolen One

The stolen vehicle's owner stepped back inside his home to grab coffee and found his ride gone in the blink of an eye.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A Friday morning joyride ended in the arrest of three teenagers from St. Petersburg.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a man who lives in the 1900 block of 53rd St. N. had just started his Camry around 7 a.m. Friday when he realized he left his coffee inside his home. The man dashed inside to grab that coffee and returned to find his car gone.

It didn’t take him long to locate his missing vehicle. He spotted it about a block down the road from his home “partially driven over an unoccupied car,” the police department wrote in a Monday email to media.

When police arrived on the scene, they didn’t waste any time in finding the accused culprits, the email said. It seems the teens, ages 15, 15 and 16, bolted from the car on foot after the crash. Police found them a few blocks away and charged each one with grand theft auto, the email noted.

The teens are not being identified due to their ages.
