Countdown to Opening Day: 4 Good Reasons to Go to the Trop Tonight

Yeah, Opening Day is here and the Rays begin their quest to defend their American League East title. But the game is sold out, so why go? Here's why.

OK, Opening Day for the Rays 2011 season is just hours away. The game against the Baltimore Orioles is sold out, but there are always ways to get tickets on the sidewalk. Why go?

Here are some reasons:

1.) Central Avenue will be alive. Whether at Ferg's Sports Cafe or down the street at Burg Bar, the entire avenue will be a giant street fair and celebration of baseball. Music will fill the air as will the scents of grilled grub and, yes, beer.

2.) Vent your frustrations. Florida Gov. Rick Scott has had a rocky road in his first few months in office with some very unpopular decisions. So unpopular that the governor, who will throw out the first pitch, has been a subject of a massive social media campaign to boo him tonight when he takes the mound at Tropicana Field.

3.) Chow down. Some new fare at Tropicana Field this year includes pulled pork nachos, burger rolls, chopped pork sandwiches, Cuban burgers and... microbeers from Cigar City Brewing,

4.) Oh, yeah, baseball! There is a game to be played tonight too. So the spoiled players and arrogant NFL owners are bickering over $9 billion dollars. Wah! Baseball, America's pastime is back! The race to 90 (and beyond) is on!
