The children, an email from police said, were found “living in deplorable conditions.” The apartment was “full of rotting garbage, soiled diapers, roaches and flies.”
Police say they found a 2-year-old girl naked and covered in feces inside a playpen in the apartment’s living room. A 4-year-old boy was locked inside a room that had “walls covered with feces and no bedding,” the email said. The boy was also naked and “covered in feces, urine and insects,” the email said.
The odor, police noted, “was overpowering.”
Chyanne Davis was brought into custody Friday afternoon. She was being booked into the Pinellas County Jail Friday evening. Her first appearance in court is scheduled for Saturday morning.
Police say the two children were taken to All Children’s Hospital to be checked out.
Investigators said they believe Davis has been leaving the children home alone while she worked nights at a fast-food restaurant. Police cannot disclose Davis’ relationship to the children under Florida law, nor did they say where in the city she lives.
