Driver Crashes Into St. Petersburg Restaurant: Police
Sunset Grille will open as usual Friday despite a car driving into the building in the early morning hours, the owner said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A car drove into Sunset Grille overnight, leaving the St. Petersburg restaurant with visible damage Friday morning.
The crash, which happened around 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street and 30th Avenue North, “appears to be a minor incident,” Ken Knight, a public information specialist with St. Petersburg police, told Patch.
Though there aren’t more details about what caused the crash, there were no injuries, he added.

Despite the damage to the building, Sunset Grille will open for normal business hours today, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
“It looks worse than it is,” owner Sharon White told Patch.

For the first portion of the day, only the back patio will be open, as the front bar sustained most of the damage in the crash.
“We’re not opening the front bar yet, obviously,” she said. “But I already have three of my guys on it. It’s been a fun morning.”
She’s already had city employees, an architect and contractors review the damage Friday morning, before the restaurant opened, and hopes to have the front bar open by the end of the day.
