HSN shoots inside Neal Signature Homes' model

When the location scout for HSN showed the Neal Signature Homes’ Dominica II model at The Concession to HSN’s photo shoot director, he knew it would be the perfect location to shoot products by inventor and entrepreneur Joy Mangano, the real-life inspiration for the major motion picture Joy.

While searching for locations, they hunt for bright looks and white settings, says David Berggren, the photo shoot director for HSN. “It replicates the on-set look but has a real-world feel. For Joy, we look for a style similar to our customer’s homes.”

On February 8 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., the crew shot Joy’s Forever Fragrant Odor-Eliminating 10 home fragrances. Some smell-worthy scents include Oceanside Breeze, Vanilla Bean Cupcake, Tranquil Lavender Chamomile, Pumpkin Spice and Afternoon White Tea.

The crew shot in almost every room of the house, including the laundry room, bedrooms, bathroom, entry and others. The 12-person team included a prop stylist, art department, camera department, lighting and grip department, production assistants, director, hired model and Joy’s representative, who ensures Joy’s vision is being embodied.

“This home’s furnishings and open space really help make the product pop,” says David. “The floor plan gives us a lot of room for lighting and general shooting. We could get a pretty shot even without lights. There are beautiful shots at any angle.”

Previously, the HSN crew shot more of Joy’s products, including her Huggable Hangers, reading glasses and luggage line, on January 13 in the model.

Joy’s entire line of products is everything you need to organize and simplify your life – from linens and handbags to vacuums and closet systems.

Joy’s first invention was the Miracle Mop, which launched 25 years ago. Since then, she’s been designing ever since. The major motion picture Joy is the story of how Joy, played by Jennifer Lawrence, rose to become founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty. The movie also stars Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

David noted that HSN plans to return to another Neal Signature Homes’ model after the conclusion of the Parade of Homes, which began February 20 and runs until March 6.

“The decorating style in addition to the overall home really attracted us to this model,” says David. “I’d love to shoot in all of the homebuilder’s models.”
