Lakewood High Student 'Extremely Critical' After Shooting

The incident happened Wednesday evening on 1st Street South.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a Wednesday evening drive-by shooting that has sent a Lakewood High School student to the hospital.

According to the agency, the shooting occurred at 2121 1st. St. S. around 5:30 p.m.

"Preliminary information is someone drove up in front of the house," an email from the police department said. "The victim had some sort of interaction with the person(s) in the car."

The victim, identified as Maxwell Curtis, was shot where the road and driveway meet, police noted.

"This was not a random shooting," the email added. "His injuries are extremely critical."

Curtis was taken to Bayfront Health following the shooting.
