Man Shot, Killed On Way Home From Work

St. Petersburg Police say the shooting occurred in the area of 5th Avenue South and 6th Street

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning near 5th Avenue South and 6th Street.

According to the agency, Scott R. Franklin, 41, was driving home from work around 12:25 a.m. In the area of 6th Avenue South and 5th Street South, video footage captured what appears to have been at least two to three other vehicles following Franklin’s vehicle, an email from the agency stated.

The group of vehicles came to a stop just before the intersection, the email said.

“Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and (observed) someone leaning out of the passenger side of one of the suspect vehicles,” the email said. The suspect vehicles took off northbound on 6th Street after the shooting.
