In Midst Of Spring Break, 3 Beaches Have Poor Water Quality
Samplings of water at several St. Pete beaches indicate poor water quality.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – It's not good news for the thousands of spring breakers now descending on St. Petersburg or the businesses that depend on them.
The St. Petersburg Water Resources Environmental Compliance Division’s sampling of waters along the shores of Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico indicated that several beaches have poor water quality.
The samples were taken Wednesday, March 21 as part of the statewide Healthy Beaches Program.

Lassing Park at 2042 Beach Drive, Maximo Beach at Pinellas Point Drive South and Sunshine Skyway Lane and Northshore Beach at 901 North Shore Drive NE all came back with a “poor” water quality rating.
Treasure Island Beach received a moderate water quality rating.

The worst was Lassing Park, which received a “Z” result. The Z result indicates that the colonies of bacteria in the water were too numerous to count.
The compliance division said the poor ratings may be due to the runoff from the heavy rainfall on Tuesday, March 20.
