National Radio Personality Pledges $10K to Slain Deputy's Family

Tampa-based Todd "Bubba" Clem is reaching out to help the family of a deputy shot and killed Monday in South Carolina.

Bubba the Love Sponge might be off Cox Media’s airwaves, but that’s not stopping the show from going on. It’s also not stopping the work of the Bubba the Love Sponge Foundation.

Through that nonprofit foundation, Todd “Bubba” Clem, has pledged $10,000 to help the family of Deputy Joe Matuskovic of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, according to Live 5 News.

Matuskovic was shot and killed during a disturbance call Monday night. Another officer was also shot and the suspect died at the scene, as well. Responding EMT Larry Britton of the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad suffered a fatal heart attack, a media release from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office stated.

Bubba’s foundation was founded in 2008 to raise community awareness and donations to support “worthy causes and victims,” its website says. The organization has donated more than $420,000 to various causes to date. Beneficiaries include numerous families of fallen law enforcement officers, the Lynn Sowers Foundation, Woodlawn Cemetery and others. In 2010, for example, the foundation donated $53,000 to the families of Tampa Police Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis. In 2011, the families of St. Petersburg Police Officers David Crawford, Jeffrey Yaslowitz and Thomas Baitinger each received $26,500.

Clem is a controversial radio personality whose show is aired on stations across the country and via the Internet. News of his removal from Cox’s 102.5 The Bone broke earlier this month. Clem has since announced a new deal is the works that will mark his return to Tampa airwaves.
