ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A new Aldi store is coming to west St. Petersburg, according to reports.

The supermarket will open at 6765 22nd Ave. N. in a shopping center adjacent to Tyrone Square Mall, St. Pete Rising reported.

The 28,605-square-foot space was previously home to the Alachua County-based Hitchcock’s Green Market and, before that, Lucky’s Supermarket.

According to a real estate flyer from Aldi, which strives to offer shoppers low prices on grocery items, the brand's stores are usually about 17,000 square feet. About 10,000 square feet of that space is designated for the sales floor.

This would give the new Tyrone-area store a significantly larger footprint than the average Aldi supermarket.
