New City Hall and Police Station transformative for Dade City and area

With significant nods to history, new facility meets modern needs and fills role with development trend toward Wesley Chapel

Dade City, Fla. (February 29, 2016) -- Finishing touches are underway at Dade City‘s new City Hall and Police Station complex. Designed by Wannemacher Jensen Architects (WJA) and constructed by Ajax Building Corporation, Dade City will soon have a 24,000 square-foot municipal complex located prominently on a main street (38020 Meridian Avenue) in its urban core.

Sharing some similarity with other recent public projects by WJA, designers sought to create new opportunities for citizens as well as public servants. “It’s a community building with civic presence,” described architect and project manager Daryl Krumsieg. “Dade City is proud of its heritage and enthusiastic about its future – we worked to emulate those feelings alongside the needed functions.”

WJA principal Jason Jensen added, “It’s a project the community can be excited about. The building echoes Dade City’s historic main street while embracing modern police and administrative needs.”

The City Hall includes: Commission Chambers and offices for City staff and department heads. The Commission Chambers double as a flexible multipurpose space for community meetings and events.

The Police Station includes: 24-hour dispatch, detention processing, holding facilities, evidence processing/storage, patrol touch down work areas, offices, and a citywide emergency operations center.

“This municipal complex is a tremendous asset for Dade City and a rewarding project for Ajax to manage,” said Bill Byrne, Ajax president. “As construction manager, Ajax built the project in 11 months.”

Transitioning into the new building is taking place over coming weeks. On March 11, the City of Dade City will celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting with officials and dignitaries.

Notably, with Dade City’s proximity to Wesley Chapel, and a northern push in real estate development, local professionals say this new complex is key to preparedness and continued growth.
