📰 News we're reading
1. $41M deal follows debt, complaints at St. Pete apartments (stpetecatalyst.com) — Residents at The Morgan apartments in south St. Petersburg just got a new landlord after a $41.1 million bankruptcy sale, but there's still no word on when chronic maintenance and utility issues will be fixed. The city holds a secured claim of more than $700,000, including possible unpaid water bills, and tenant advocates are watching closely to see if conditions improve or affordable housing can be preserved.

2. Federal error correction brings $173 million to St. Petersburg (stpetecatalyst.com) — St. Petersburg is getting an unexpected $173 million boost in Hurricane Milton recovery money after a federal mapping error was fixed, unlocking new help for affected homeowners and renters. Most of the funds will flow through the Sunrise St. Pete program for housing repairs and storm-related costs, with additional dollars for infrastructure and flood mitigation. Previously denied Milton-only applicants will be reconsidered automatically.

3. St. Pete couple waited months for reimbursement after utility workers damaged property (wfla.com) — A St. Petersburg couple spent nearly seven months fighting for reimbursement after utility work in their neighborhood accidentally severed an electric line, frying lights, electronics and pool equipment. After repeated denials and confusion over which contractor was responsible, they finally received a $6,201 check, offering a cautionary tale for locals to document every repair and keep detailed records when infrastructure projects go wrong.

4. Duke Energy Florida working to restore power to North Florida homes (clickorlando.com) — St. Petersburg-based Duke Energy Florida crews are wrapping up power restoration today after Hurricane Isaias, with about 2,200 North Florida homes still waiting to be reconnected. Company leaders say around-the-clock work and the storm's favorable path helped speed repairs, and they're urging residents to avoid downed lines and follow generator safety instructions while service is finalized.
