Pedestrian Killed In St. Pete Hit-And-Run Identified

The crash happened Monday evening along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South and 20th Avenue South.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is looking for help identifying a motorist its officers say was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash Monday night.

According to the agency, the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of 20th Avenue South and Dr. Martin Luther Jr. Street South. Police say Shizer Thornton, 57, was walking westbound across Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street at that time.

A vehicle, believed to be a dark colored SUV, struck Thornton, a St. Petersburg resident. The driver kept going, police wrote in an email to media.

Thornton was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, police noted.

Anyone who may have seen the crash or has information about the motorist involved is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-7780.
