Photographer Clyde Butcher to host holiday open house at Venice Gallery

Famous American landscape photographer Clyde Butcher (www.ClydeButcher.com) will host a holiday open house at his Venice gallery and studio on November 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 237 Warfield Ave.

Butcher, who is known for his black-and-white photographs of the Everglades and natural sites throughout the world, will sign books of his photography and calendars at the open house, which is free and open to the public.

His 2016 calendar, featuring Florida’s national parks, is now available for purchase and makes a wonderful holiday gift. The calendar includes 12 photographs taken inside Big Cypress National Preserve, Everglades National Park, Key Biscayne National Park and National Seashore Cape Canaveral. A portion of calendar sales will be donated to the South Florida Parks Trust.

Behind-the-scenes tours of Butcher’s 2,200-square-foot darkroom will be led every 30 minutes during the open house, giving visitors the chance to delve into the process he uses to develop his stirring and breathtaking landscape images.

Clyde Butcher’s black and white photographs explore his personal relationship with the environment. For more than 40 years, Butcher’s photography has been preserving the untouched areas of the landscape on film. His images, ranging in size, are captured with an 8”x 10”, 11”x 14”, and 12”x 20” view camera. The large-format camera allows him to express the elaborate detail and textures that distinguish the intricacy of the landscape.

The Sierra Club has gifted him with the Ansel Adams Conservation Award, which is given to a photographer who shows excellence in photography and has contributed to the public awareness of the environment.
