Skyway Bridge Back In Business

Motorists were being asked to avoid the Sunshine Skyway Tuesday morning.

Update: The Florida Highway Patrol has reported that the Skyway Bridge has reopened to traffic. The bridge was closed Monday and into Tuesday due to high winds associated with Tropical Storm Colin.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Motorists who use the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in their commutes will want to find different routes Tuesday morning.

As of 7:20 a.m., the Skyway remained off limits to motorists. It remains unclear as to when the bridge will reopen to traffic. The Skyway closed Monday after winds more than 50 mph were clocked by the Florida Highway Patrol. Overnight, wind speeds reached 61 mph, Sgt. Steve Gaskins reported.

The Courtney Campbell Causeway’s closing was rumored, but Clearwater Public Safety said that is not the case. “The Courtney Campbell Causeway is open,” the agency wrote on Twitter.
