St. Pete Man Critically Injured In Crash

The accident happened Monday afternoon on 62nd Avenue.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A 76-year-old St. Petersburg man was critically injured in a Monday afternoon crash involving three vehicles.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Glenn Alfred Connolly was traveling south on Haines Road in a 2007 Saturn Ion approaching the intersection of 62nd Avenue North around 1:42 p.m. Monday. As Connolly neared the intersection, a 2004 Saturn Ion driven by Virginia Riggs, 76, of St. Petersburg was heading west on 62nd Avenue North in the outside lane. A 2016 Dodge Ram driven by Joseph Kohler, 58, was also traveling westbound on 62nd at the time.

Troopers say Kohler and Riggs proceeded through the intersection at Haines Road under a green traffic signal. Connolly, a highway patrol report said, failed to stop for a steady red signal. Connolly ultimately ran the light and struck the front of Riggs’ vehicle as Kohler’s truck ran into Connolly.
