St. Pete Man Killed In Hit-And-Run

The man was walking on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South early Saturday morning when he was struck, police say.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened early Saturday morning.

According to the agency, Steven Anthony Stepo, 55, was walking with another man northbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South around 1:52 a.m. The men were on the east sidewalk, an email from the agency to media said.

In the area of James Avenue South, the two began crossing from east to west. Stepo, the email said, is believed to have been struck by a vehicle that was heading southbound in the median lane of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. Stepo struck the pavement and “the vehicle never stopped,” the email said.
