St. Petersburg Free Clinic seeking 500 volunteers for May 14 food drive

St. Petersburg Free Clinic is seeking 500 volunteers to assist with one of its largest food drives of the year, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive on Saturday, May 14, 2016.

Letter carriers throughout the Tampa Bay area will collect nonperishable food donations as they deliver mail during the National Association of Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive on May 14. Food donated in south Pinellas County will be delivered to St. Petersburg Free Clinic, which provides emergency food services to more than 40,000 families each year.

Individuals, families and groups are needed to:

- Sort food at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic’s distribution center in downtown St. Petersburg;

- Drive sport-utility vehicles, trucks or vans through short local routes to pick up donated food and deliver it to St. Petersburg Free Clinic.

The Free Clinic expects more than 120,000 pounds of food – enough food to provide hungry families with meals through the summer – to be donated through the “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive. It is one of the largest contributors to the 2.9 million pounds of food donated to St. Petersburg Free Clinic every year.
