Unlicensed Teen Driver, Mother Charged In Fatal Crash: St. Pete Police

A 17-year-old and her mother face charges related to a fatal SUV crash in which two teens died, St. Petersburg police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An unlicensed teen driver and her mother were arrested Thursday and charged in a deadly crash that happened in August, according to a St. Petersburg police news release.

Nikia Killens, 17, of St. Petersburg was charged as an adult with two counts of driving without a license causing death, police said.

Her mother, Eloda Hogan, was charged with allowing an unlicensed driver to operate her vehicle causing death.

On Aug. 6, Killens was driving her mother’s SUV east on 11th Avenue South just before 1 a.m. when she veered off the road and hit a power pole in the 4200 block, police said.

Her two passengers, 14-year-old Shaariyah Brown and 18-year-old Brice Lewis — both of St. Petersburg — died from their injuries, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Killens was brought to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital with minor injuries from the crash.
