Vehicle Involved in Fatal Hit-And-Run Found

Breaking: The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a person of interest in a hit-and-run that left a St. Pete woman dead.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the recovery of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash last week that led to the death of a St. Petersburg woman.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tip came through on Monday that led troopers to a St. Petersburg hotel where a 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier was parked. The vehicle is believed to have been involved in an Aug. 23 crash that killed Catherine Scott Strazdins, 35.

Troopers say the car has been seized and that they are communicating with a person of interest in the case.

The accident in question occurred around 11:25 p.m. Aug. 23 at the intersection of 28th Street North and 41st Avenue North. The vehicle, a highway patrol report said, was heading north on 28th Street as Strazdins was walking in the intersection. The car's driver struck Strazdins and then left the scene, troopers said.

Strazdins was taken to Bayfront hospital, but died from her injuries.
