Woman Who Died In Window Identified

St. Petersburg Police say the discovery of an abandoned baby Tuesday morning led officers to the woman's body.

St. Petersburg, FL — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the death of a woman found trapped in a window Tuesday morning.

According to the agency, officers received a call around 8:30 a.m. about a baby left abandoned in a stroller outside 2141 15th Ave. S. When they arrived on the scene, they found a woman trapped in a window at the rear of the home.

Police say their initial investigation leads them to believe the woman was trying to get inside the home when she became wedged on the window sill. She was found dead in that position, the agency wrote in an email to media.

Police say the woman has been identified as Niesha Nicole Annie Henderson, 23. It was Henderson's 9-month-old son who was left in a stroller outside the home.

"It has been learned that Henderson was currently homeless and had previously stayed at this address a couple times in the recent past," a Tuesday afternoon email from police said. "She was believed to be asthmatic."

Police say Henderson left her son in the stroller and used a plastic lawn chair and milk crate to stand upon to get into the window, which was 5 feet above the ground. "The chair fell over as Henderson got her head and arms through the window and she subsequently became wedged in the window sill," the email said.

Police say it is not known how long Henderson was stuck in the window before she died.

No further details are being released at this time.
