• Tavares Middle Takes FLYRA State Cross-Country Titles (lakeandsumterstyle.com) — Tavares Middle School’s boys and girls cross-country teams just swept the FLYRA public school state championships, extending a dominant run of titles for the Red Sea. Local runners delivered personal-best times and key upsets over Emerald Coast and Ruckel, earning the school its 10th and 11th state crowns under coaches Kevin and April Von Maxey.
   

• Gerald Michael Wargo (leesburg-news.com) — Tavares residents are mourning Dr. Gerald Michael Wargo, an 87-year-old educator and longtime community member who passed away peacefully at home. A celebration of his life is planned for November 7, 2027 at Steverson Hamlin & Hilbish in Tavares, where family and friends will gather to honor his kindness, leadership, and deep devotion to loved ones.
