It is standard protocol for deputies involved in shooting incidents to be placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, the sheriffβs office said.
As the shooting is reviewed, a search for the person responsible for firing upon the three officers continues.
βDetectives are working around clock and have developed some solid leads, however, we cannot publicly release any further details as to whatβs been learned without compromising the investigation,β a Friday email from the sheriffβs office stated.
The shooting comes on the heels of a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer being injured in the line of duty in the Panhandle area after a gunfight erupted on the water. It also follows an incident last week that resulted in a Clearwater Police Department substation being fired upon.
