Boys Town Research Vehicle Stopped in West Palm Beach
for Researchers to Study Children's Hearing
Boys Town South Florida hosted a free hearing screening at its West Palm Beach location on January 18-20 for a hearing research study for children aged 4 to 18 years old in the Boys Town Research Vehicle (BTRV), a mobile research laboratory equipped with a built-in sound booth.
Researchers at Boys Town National Research Hospital are studying children’s hearing and how they listen to speech in the presence of background sounds in the Boys Town Research Vehicle. Participants who speak English or are bilingual in English and Spanish and have normal hearing were tested in a sound-treated booth and responded to comfortable sounds played through a speaker or headphones.
With the BTVR, the Boys Town staff can conduct research anywhere in the country and provide hearing screenings. Boys Town is a pioneer in research, unlocking the vital connections between hearing, speech, and language to improve children’s lives and help families create brighter futures.

The BTRV team partnered with The Gold Coast Down Syndrome Association in Boca Raton to schedule the research appointments with eight of their family clients. Boys Town South Florida supporters also had the opportunity to tour the BTRV.
