11 Killed In Memorial Day GA Crashes; Nearly 500 Charged With DUI: GSP
Georgia authorities responded to 11 fatal crashes and issued thousands of citations from 6 p.m. Friday until 11:59 p.m. Monday.
GEORGIA — Eleven people were killed in multiple crashes over the Memorial Day weekend, Georgia State Patrol said Wednesday in its latest report.
Authorities across Georgia responded to 11 fatal crashes during the holiday travel period, which began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, the GSP said.
Police departments in Atlanta, Clayton County and Emerson all reported fatal crashes, the GSP said. The GSP responded to other fatal crashes across the state.

A breakdown of agency crash fatality reports is as follows, per the GSP:

In total, troopers investigated more than 500 traffic crashes in Georgia that resulted in nearly 250 injuries, the GSP said.

As for traffic stops, troopers and officers with the Motor Carrier Compliance Division conducted at least 24,000 stops and arrested nearly 500 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, the GSP said.
Nearly 15,000 warnings were given and more than 14,000 citations were issued, the GSP said.
