Cold Front, Dwindling Temps Forecast For Georgia

The cold front, coming in from the west, is expected to leave behind an air mass that will impact a large portion of Georgia.

GEORGIA — Summer is gone, and fall temperatures are being ushered into Georgia this week.

A cold front is forecast to arrive late Thursday into Friday, leaving behind an air mass that will drop weekend temperatures in most of the state, said Meredith Wyatt, meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

Wyatt told Patch dry conditions are largely anticipated this week, but the cold front will cause a shift for north and central Georgia.

The front is moving in from the west, where areas in the plains are experiencing severe weather Wednesday, she said. The front will "lose steam" as it nears the southeast, but the air mass will carry on into early next week.

Areas near Macon and Columbus could see temperatures in the 40s Saturday while far north Georgia could see possible showers.

As for metro Atlanta, high temperatures are expected to sit in the upper 60s. Lows are forecast to dwindle to the low 40s Saturday before rising to the mid- to upper-60s Sunday.

Wyatt said the new weather pattern will be "a little taste of fall for Georgia." The environment will be breezy, but no significant impacts are expected.

There are no current major storms on the weather service's radar for metro Atlanta.
