GA Deputy Charged With Rape, Sexual Assault Of Woman
Authorities said the woman was not in custody at the time and told the local sheriff's office the deputy raped her.
COVINGTON, GA — A Newton County deputy accused of rape and sexual assault of a woman who was not in police custody at the time is now facing charges.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Thursday George Rahming, 38, of Covington, was also charged on suspicion of violation of oath of office.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office asked the GBI to investigate the case on July 10 after the sheriff's office gathered information that reportedly substantiated the woman's allegation, the GBI said. The woman told authorities she was raped by a deputy in uniform, the GBI said.

Rahming, who was fired by Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown, was employed with the sheriff's office for about two years. Rahming is currently in custody.
Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
