The Art of Life: Garland's Story

At the age of nine Garland painted the white vase of flowers with a huge measure of confidence. He swished a large brush loaded with orange and yellow paint boldly across the canvas. The green leaves and stems seem to fly onto background likeexploding fireworks. Black spots of varying sizes hopped onto the stems. A white vase and white circles around the spots finished the masterpiece. 

The kids in his art class loved Garland’s bold colors. At the end of class the parentspicked up the children. All the parents, also, said they were amazed with Garland’s fabulous use of color.

Garland and I smiled sheepishly at each other with each comment. Only we knew he was colorblind.
