City Hall Welcomes Football Heroes
The champions and runners up of the Acworth Warriors football program received certificates from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Nine teams from the Acworth Football and Cheering Association's (AFCA) Acworth Warriors were honored for their recent super bowl wins and appearances during Thursday evening's meeting of the .
The 5-year-old Division II Warriors, 7-year-old Division II Warriors, 8-year-old Division I Warriors, 8-year-old Division IIA Warriors, 8-year-old Division IIB Warriors, 9-year-old Division I Warriors, 9-year-old Division IIB Warriors, 10-year-old Division I Warriors and the 11/12-year-old Division IIA Warriors all received special recognition during the meeting.
The 8-year-old IIA Warriors, 10-year-old Warriors and 11/12-year-old Warriors all finished as the runner up in their respective super bowls. The remainder of the teams won their North West Georgia Youth Football League (NWGYFL) championships.

Overall, Acworth teams took home eight of a possible 13 championships, and all Acworth competitive teams combined to record an impressive .930 winning percentage. Instructional league teams won 72 percent of their games.
Council Chambers inside were filled to the walls with parents, young athletes and other citizens.

“We had a record-breaking year last year,” said AFCA President Rigo Vangarelli. “But we almost matched what we did last year, which is a great, great accomplishment for our coaches and our organization.”
450 football players and 106 cheerleaders took part in AFCA activities this year, said Vangarelli. He went on to personally thank the City of Acworth, the , the , City Manager Brian Bulthuis and Parks and Recreation Director James Albright for their tireless work in making sure that the AFCA is a success; Bulthuis is a coach on the nine year old Division I team.
All Acworth Warriors were entitled to one free slice of pizza, which was provided by Parkside Italian Kitchen.
After passing out certificates to all attending players, coaches and team moms, the Mayor and Board unanimously passed the consent agenda. Important items from Thursday's agenda include:
- An alcohol privilege permit has been issued to .
- A charge of 75 cents per retail transaction on prepaid wireless services will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2012. This charge will go towards local 911 service.
- An across the board payment adjustment of three percent for employees and one and a one half percent adjustment to the city's pay scale will go into effect on Jan. 2, 2012.
- The city will purchase $50 gift cards from Walmart for all city employees for a holiday gift. These purchases will not exceed $8,250.
- Volunteer background check criteria have been revised and approved.
