Faith Corner: Harvest Baptist School

Learn more about this private Christian school at Harvest Baptist Church in Acworth.

Harvest Baptist School is a Christian private school at that was established in 1976. The school has an open enrollment policy with a standard $150 application fee. Students are expected to wear uniforms and in addition to academic instruction private instrumental and voice lessons are offered.

According to Assistant Pastor Jamie Smithey, students attending the school are encouraged to attend a Bible college or Christian college which typically does not require students to graduate from an accredited school. The school realizes that not all students will go on to attend a Christian or Bible college and are currently exploring options for accreditation.

School hours are 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. offering academic instruction for students in K3 through 12th grade. Assistant Pastor Jamie Smithey said each day begins with a “devotion, prayer and pledges of allegiance to our Bible, Christian flag and the United States of America”. The academic day then begins in a traditional classroom setting with a teacher.

Harvest Baptist School’s mission is “to come along side and assist parents to give their children a biblical world view for life” by growing the student “spiritually, intellectually, socially and physically. The school’s motto is “the heart of education is the education of the heart."

“I have been a teacher here at Harvest Baptist School since January 2010. I have found our school to be exciting and challenging because of the high standard of excellence for which we strive. Our use of the a Beka Book curriculum gives us traditional classroom set up in which we teachers have the opportunity to influence not only our students’ minds but their character as well. HBS is producing top notch citizens in our community and I am grateful for the opportunity and I am grateful for the opportunity to have a part in such a worthy cause,” said Jessica Smith, 3rd and 4th Grade Teacher.

“The school has a good influence on me. The teachers love and care for me and they make school fun. Another reason I like HBS is that I get to see my friends,” said Victoria Wilkie, a 10th grader.

“Since my husband and I believe that education is more than learning, applying and communicating knowledge, we partner with Harvest Baptist School to provide not only a rigorous academic education but also the spiritual foundation that our children need to serve and glorify God throughout life," said Sharon Wilkie. "HBS reinforces our Christian worldview and our family’s values are uplifted and encouraged."
