Freeze Warning Issued as Polar Air Blasts In

Stay warm, Acworth: Bundle up, protect tender vegetation and keep pets inside.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Freeze Warning for most of North Georgia, including Acworth and the rest of Cobb County.

The warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday night to 10 a.m. Friday, the weather service said. The warned area includes all of metro Atlanta and Athens.

Overnight lows are expected to be in the mid 20’s to near freezing from the north Georgia mountains to as far south as Americus.

In the Acworth area, the NWS forecast says the overnight low tonight is expected to be 26 and Friday night’s low will be around 25.

The weather service says:

PEOPLE...PETS...PLANTS...AND PIPES ARE ALL AT RISK DUE TO EXPOSURE. PLEASE PROTECT THEM FROM THE FREEZING TEMPERATURES. ... A FREEZE WARNING MEANS FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE FORECAST TO THREATEN OUTDOOR PLANTS. THOSE WITH AGRICULTURAL INTERESTS IN THE WARNED AREA ARE ADVISED TO HARVEST OR PROTECT TENDER VEGETATION.
