Georgia Board of Education Pushes Ahead With Kindergarten Profile Plans

The Georgia Board of Education is now looking for a partner to help it build an assessment tool which will give educators a better grasp of the instructional needs of the state’s Kindergarten students.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the board approved the search on Monday, and is seeking a developer who can create the state’s “Kindergarten Entry Profile.”

The profile is a part of the Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (GKIDS), a yearlong program designed to constantly monitor Kindergarten students’ progress on essential academic skills such as reading, language arts, social studies, and non-academic skills like social development and motor skills.

GKIDS will also be used to “identify learning readiness gaps at kindergarten entry to inform the improvement of pre-K programs” across the state, according to a Department of Education Powerpoint.

According to the Department of Education’s summary of deliverables, pre-K trial runs of GKIDS and the Kindergarten Entry Profile will occur between May and June of 2016, with a full roll-out planned for August - October of 2017.
